Orlando Holidays
The worldwide epicentre of fun, Orlando conjures up visions of rollicking rollercoasters, magical moments, and enchanting experiences.
Orlando was a quiet Floridian town surrounded by swampland until a certain Mr Disney came knocking in the 1960s. Now dominated by two enormous resorts, Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort (both deserve your time), Orlando is the uncontested Theme Park Capital of the World.
But there’s more to Orlando than rides, fireworks, and parades of dancing characters: this is your chance to chill on a lazy river, shop till you drop in high-end malls, or play golf on immaculate courses under sunny Floridian skies. Then there are lovely neighbourhoods that reveal a more down-to-earth side to a city that is all about illusion and make-believe, including Winter Park and Celebration.

Restaurants
There’s something to eat around every corner in the parks, from on-the-go snacks to sit-down restaurants. Outside the gates, there are even more choices – try Universal CityWalk and Disney Springs for a fabulous selection (it helps to book if you can get yourself organised). Then, there are more options along International Drive and in the holidaymakers’ neighbourhoods of Celebration and Championsgate.
Shopping
You’ll find all your favourite American brands in places like the Florida Mall and the Mall at Millenia. Or see if you can pick up a few bargains at Orlando International Premium Outlets, where you’ll find the likes of Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, and Polo Ralph Lauren.
Waterparks
Although Disney has two waterparks and Universal has the epic Volcano Bay, there’s more splashy fun to be had beneath the hot Florida sun. Try Island H20 in the Sunset Walk neighbourhood or look out for resorts such as Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Omni Orlando Resort at Championsgate, or Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, which all have more than your average hotel swimming pool!
International Drive
The long I-Drive carves a north-south route through Orlando. Stretching over ten miles, it’s lined with motels, hotels, great value chain restaurants, and yet more attractions like ICON Park. It’s also where you’ll find some epic adventure golf courses, like Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf and Putting Edge Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Golf.
Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World is a vast city in its own right. It has four theme parks and two water parks. But that’s not all. Within the Disney boundaries, there are over 30 hotels, 400 restaurants, and four golf courses. And at Disney Springs (for which you don’t need a park admission ticket), you’ll find shops, restaurants, and attractions like shows, live music, bowling, and tethered balloon rides.
Universal Orlando Resort
Step into the worlds of Jurassic Park, Minions, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and more across Universal Orlando Resort’s two theme parks, soon to be joined by a third park, Epic Universe, in 2025. There’s also the Volcano Bay waterpark here, where you can plunge down the side of a volcano and splash down into turquoise water.
Parks beyond the parks
While Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando get the lion’s share of the theme park attention, there are other parks to have on your radar, including LEGOLAND Florida Resort in Winter Haven and Busch Gardens in Tampa. On International Drive, you’ll find Dezerland Park, Pointe Orlando, and ICON Park, where The Wheel rotates and offers fabulous views across Orlando.
Celebration
This sweet little town with pastel-coloured buildings, boutique shopping, and restaurants was masterminded by Disney in the 1990s. It’s outside of Walt Disney World but still has the tell-tale hallmarks of Disney-style attention to detail. It's a great spot to visit when you’re looking for life beyond the whimsical.
