Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort
Hear the call of the wild
A luxurious retreat with locally inspired style – from the architecture to furnishings – that features its very own elephant camp.
Veiled by the haze-shrouded jungle up where Thailand meets Myanmar and Laos, this luxury resort is one of those once-in-a-lifetime retreats. Not only do you have views of the rolling landscapes of a trio of South-East Asian countries and access to those quintessential five-star facilities, but you can also come face to trunk with elephants in their natural habitat just steps from the resort. The Anantara’s conservation camp is home to more than 20 rescued orphaned and abandoned elephants and the mahouts who take care of them. As part of the unrivalled Golden Triangle Discovery package, which is included in the price of your holiday, you can interact with these majestic beasts as you walk through the jungle by their side or learn more about their behaviour and biology as well as the important conservation work carried out from the camp’s on-site experts.
Why we love Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort
-
It’s in a spectacular setting among rolling hills close to Thailand’s border with Myanma and Laos, overlooking a meandering river
-
You can stay the night in a ‘jungle bubble’, a beautifully furnished transparent dome from which to star gaze and elephant watch
-
The hotel has an impressive range of one-of-a-kind experiences, from wildlife encounters to tours in a classic Royal Enfield sidecar
-
There’s dining by candlelight in private corners of the resort, from a boat pier on the river to a yoga pavilion in a terraced rice paddy
Rooms
There are just 61 rooms and suites at the Anantara Golden Triangle each with sweeping views of the local surroundings; choose a spacious Deluxe Three Country View Room which features a comfy king-size bed and balcony or a luxe-but-cosy Three Country Suite which has a separate living area. The largest option is the Three Country Family Suite which consists of a Deluxe Room and a Suite.
Facilities
With plenty of international and Thai dishes on the menu, Sala Mae Nam is the resort's main restaurant. In the evening, there is also the option to dine Italian-style at Baan Dhalia. There's a resident 'Wine Guru' to ensure your dishes are paired with the right wine. Perfect for a morning coffee or an aperitif, Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace offers views across the pool and valley beyond. If you are looking for a more intimate setting, then the 'Dining by Design' could be for you. Served by a butler, the romantic venues include a pier over the river, amongst the rice paddy fields or in the sunset sala.
Sala Mae Nam
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at the Anantara’s main restaurant. At breakfast, there’s a wide selection of buffet dishes from around the world and at lunch and dinner, you can sit down to Thai-inspired cuisine, including street food favourites created using local produce from The Royal Projects of Thailand.
Baan Dhalia
For signature Italian dishes head to Baan Dhalia. Each dish can be paired with a tipple from the restaurant’s wine cellar, just ask the resident ‘Wine Guru’ for their recommendation.
Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace
For pre and post-dinner drinks and all-day dining options, head to the lodge-style bar which has cosy indoor seating and an al fresco terrace with spellbinding views.
For a special occasion, or just because, treat yourself to an evening ‘dining by design’. You can choose from a selection of menus featuring traditional Thai cuisine or succulent seafood and sit down to dinner in a variety of locations such as the stilted platform above the elephant camp, beside a terraced rice paddy or in a romantic spot on the pier down by the river.
Whats Included
All Inclusive (Golden Triangle Luxury Explorer Package) • One night accommodation • Breakfast at Sala Mae Nam • Lunch and dinner at Sala Mae Nam Restaurant, Elephant Bar and Opium Terrace • Selected alcoholic drinks such as house wines, beers and spirits, and cocktails • Selected non-alcoholic drinks • Minibar (restocked daily with a selection of soft drinks and snacks) • Complimentary admission to Opium (one time per person per stay) • 1 x activity per person for each night you stay at the resort (reservations recommended); these complimentary activities are: an elephant camp experience (choice of: Walking with Giants, Elephant Learning Experience or Elephant Guardian), a Golden Triangle Discover excursion, a Spice Spoons cooking class, or a selected 60-minutes Spa Treatment, private Pilates or private Yoga session.
Any guests wishing to book a second activity can do so for an additional charge.
We love the Lanna Resort spa which is located in a three-storey open-air pavilion that overlooks the jungle and features a menu full of muscle-melting treatments. Using indigenous and medicinal ingredients the therapies are based on ancient traditions.
In a pavilion set amongst the rice paddies, you can experience private sessions in yoga, reiki and Pilates.
Ride around the resort and the northern reaches of Thailand in a Royal Enfield Classic 500 sidecar, spend a night in a Jungle Bubble and watch over the elephants as the sun sets and rises again the following morning or learn the basics of Muay Thai kickboxing with the hotel’s professional trainer.
Anantara sources produce from The Royal Project of Thailand, an eco-conscious movement aiming to improve the lives of Hill Tribe communities through organic agriculture.
Elephants are an integral part of the experience here and by establishing the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, they rescue and rehabilitate elephants, protect their natural environment and reduce conflict between the animals and local communities.
From 01 April 2023, alcoholic drinks will no longer be part of the all-inclusive package.
