The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

Design that rises above the crowd

The new Asian flagship of the born-in-Hollywood Standard brand offers glamour, inventive dining and made-for-Instagram looks.

You know you’re somewhere that bit different from the moment you catch sight of The Standard Bangkok’s home: a groundbreaking pixellated tower of glass and steel soaring heavenwards. The headline-grabbing creativity continues inside, with dramatic, quirky interiors that channel 1960s Space Age design to striking effect. There’s plenty of substance here as well as style, particularly in the restaurants, bars and lounges where you can savour the work of a superstar Mexican chef, enjoy a taste of New York or experience one of Hong Kong’s most celebrated eateries. Even better, everything comes with a view of the neon-lit, ever-evolving cityscape through walls of glass, from the 24/7 gym to the chic rooms and – most of all – the wildly fashionable rooftop bar. Add to that an elevated beach-clubby outdoor pool that could have been plucked from one of Thailand’s glossier island resorts, and many guests will find it hard to tear themselves away.

Why we love The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

  • The interior design is fun, colourful, eye-catching and wonderfully appealing, so you’ll want to keep your camera handy at all times

  • Its superb dining scene covers the ground from avant-garde Mexican cuisine to wood-fire-grilled American classics and Thai favourites

  • On a hot day, the fabulous outdoor pool is a supremely inviting place for a cooling dip and something from the cocktail menu

  • It’s conveniently located right by a Skytrain station, not far from a riverboat stop, in an area known for its upmarket nightlife and dining

With six restaurants, lounges and bars to choose from, plus a carefully curated pool menu, food is very much a high point at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon – though you’ll need to reserve a table at the most popular spots.

Ojo Bangkok
Open daily for lunch and dinner, Bangkok’s highest restaurant has the city’s best 360-degree views, a celebrity-chef menu of inventive Mexican dishes and a long waiting list, so booking is essential.

The Standard Grill
Inspired by its sister restaurant in New York, this grown-up venue has a menu of stylish American classics, many cooked on a wood-fired grill.

Mott 32 Bangkok
Bangkok’s iteration of the award-winning Hong Kong original serves innovative Cantonese, Beijing and Szechuan cuisine – its signature Apple Wood Roasted Peking duck is legendary.

Sky Beach
The world’s third-highest rooftop bar has private access to the Skywalk observation deck, spectacular views and a creative cocktail list.

Double Standard
Enjoy casual meals of Japanese fish and chips, Wagyu cheeseburgers and the like in a relaxed leafy venue that’s open from midday until 11pm.

The Parlor
Enjoy all-day Southern Thai yellow curry in the evening, or stop by for coffee, tea or a cocktail.

Tease
From 1pm until late, this Insta-worthy lounge bar is known for its eccentric design and classic boozy blends, and cocktails. The menu is packed with a expertly curated list of teas, sweet American-style desserts and a range of savoury and sweet snacks that make the perfect accompaniment to your drinks.

There are good reasons why tables at Ojo Bangkok are snapped up months in advance, from the wow-factor views to the exquisite modern Mexican cuisine.

Whats Included

Breakfast at Double Standard.

There’s a 24-hour fitness centre furnished with state-of-the-art Technogym, Peloton and CLMBR equipment and a studio that hosts a range of exercise classes. Ease your muscles afterwards in the steam room.

With a Skytrain and a riverboat stop nearby, it's easy to access many Bangkok's attractions and shopping malls.

On a sixth-floor rooftop, there’s an outdoor pool surrounded by loungers for watery workouts and sunbathing.

Ingredients in the restaurants are sourced as locally as possible, while the absence of buffets cuts down on food waste; any leftovers are made into compost or given to a local animal refuge. Used bathroom supplies are donated to charity, there’s energy-saving LED lighting throughout, and lots of plants inside and out to clean the air naturally.
