Blending beautifully into its surroundings, this hidden gem in East Bali is sympathetically modern.
On arrival, the hotel’s fabulous architecture will strike you first. It spills down the rice terraces, its design taking full advantage of the view over the lush Balinese countryside, especially from the dual-level infinity pool. You’re welcomed with birdsong melodies and a team of quietly attentive staff before making your way to your room or suite, where you’re greeted by river and rainforest views. There are just 21 rooms here, so as you might expect, there’s a hushed tranquillity throughout.
Why we love Wapa di Ume Sidemen
-
Join a complimentary tour of Sidemen for an introduction to the area and culture
-
Despite its quiet location, there’s plenty to do, from cooking and hiking to rafting and biking
-
There’s a delightfully relaxed pace of life here, where slow countryside explorations are balanced with yoga classes and hours spent beside the pool
-
You can feast on classic and authentic Indonesian dishes at the resort’s restaurant with an elevated view
Rooms
There are just three types of rooms at Wapa di Ume Sideman. They’re all furnished in the same way, leaning on natural stones and wood finishes that suit the natural surroundings down to the ground. Expect nice-to-haves such as a daily fruit basket and plenty of bathroom products. View-wise, the Di Ume Suites have a wider vantage than the Lanai Rooms, but the One Bedroom Pool Villas are the biggest jump up in spec and offer celebrating couples a private slice of paradise.
Facilities
For a resort this size, it’s understandable that there’s only one restaurant — the excellent Sleeping Gajah Kitchen & Lounge. Its wide-ranging menu helps to keep things interesting, plus there are ways to bring variety to your experience, whether you want to have a romantic dinner for two in a secluded spot or try a floating breakfast in the pool one morning.
Sleeping Gajah Kitchen & Lounge
An open-sided restaurant with uninterrupted views, serving a wide range of local and international dishes.
Bar 57
Find a seat at the bar and watch the mixologist blend a cocktail based on local Balinese spirits.
Floating Breakfast
Enjoy breakfast in the pool, served on a floating tray in the main pool or your private pool villa.
Romantic Dinner under the Stars
Dine on a two- or three-course menu on a deck strewn with petals and candles in a tranquil spot in the resort.
Balinese Cooking Class
Tour the Sidemen market at 7am to gather your ingredients, then join a class led by local chefs to create the local dishes, just in time for lunch.
The Balinese Cooking Class is a highly recommended experience, where you procure your own ingredients at the morning market before returning to the hotel to learn how to put it all together.
