Over two full days, you’ll have the chance to better understand the Khmer Empire and religion, with plenty of time to admire some of the finest art and architecture. Day 1
Siem Reap
When you arrive at Siem Reap’s airport, you’ll board a coach transfer to take you to your hotel, where you’ll check in for three nights. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the afternoon and evening to explore the city at your own pace. Siem Reap is known for its excellent food and the chance to pick up Angkor-inspired handicrafts.
Day 2
Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat
A morning visit to Phsat Krom Market reveals more about local life in Siem Reap before you step back in time to the Khmer Empire, where the next two days will immerse you in this fascinating era. First, you’ll visit Angkor Thom via the South Gate with its imposing statues. It leads you to Bayon, a temple renowned for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling stone faces. You’ll remain in Angkor Thom for the rest of the morning, visiting sites and temples that reveal more about the pomp, pageantry, culture, and religion of the times. In the afternoon, visit Ta Prohm, claimed by jungle roots and one of the area’s most beautiful temples. Then, visit the most famous temple, the vast Angkor Wat, considered the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture.
Day 3
Temples of Angkor
You’ll visit Prasat Kravan in the morning, when the light casts a glow on the beautiful reliefs, showing off its exquisite detail to the fullest. Then, see Neak Pean, a fountain built in the middle of pools and Preah Khan temple, a place of towering enclosures and a maze of tight corridors. The afternoon brings you to Banteay Srei temple, regarded as the jewel of classical Khmer art. There’s time to stop at a local village to visit families who produce palm sugar. Visit Banteay Samre, one of the most complete complexes at Angkor, before making your way to your final stop — Phnom Bakheng, where you’ll stay to watch the sunset behind Angkor Wat.
