The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, Hawke's Bay
A countryside delight in one of New Zealand’s finest spots, with outstanding cuisine and facilities.
Overlooking a picturesque peninsula named by Captain James Cook in 1769, this spectacular property has been named by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the world’s top 20 hotels. It’s set on a working farm which rears its own sheep and cattle; there’s an upmarket lodge vibe here, from the sleek tiled floors to the warm cream and wood finishes. Unwind in the spa and infinity pool, retreat to the library and silo-inspired snug, and admire the views from the first-class clifftop golf course.
Meals are full of local ingredients – often sourced from the farm itself, and paired with high-calibre New Zealand wines. Get an insight into the amazing local wildlife at The Cape Sanctuary. The hotel sits within a six-and-a-half-metre predator-proof fence, aimed at restoring native wildlife including the young kiwi bird; it’s also home to the largest mainland colony of gannets on Earth.
Guest rooms are spacious and immaculate, with light bathrooms and balconies which offer panoramic views. There are four Lodge Suites next to the main facilities, while Hilltop and Ridge Suites are a short stroll away. The indulgent four-bedroom Owner’s Cottage has a courtyard, terrace, whirlpool tub and private dining – perfect for larger families or groups.
