Jetwing Saman Villas

Understated style, serenity and seclusion

With spectacular coastal views and Bawa-influenced architecture, this idyllic boutique beach resort is an effortlessly romantic hideaway.

When it first opened in the mid-1990s, Saman Villas was one of Sri Lanka’s first boutique hotels, if not the first. Almost 30 years later, the original design – inspired by traditional temple architecture – is more appealing than ever thanks to a string of sensitive upgrades ranging from ‘emotional lighting’ in the dining areas to the addition of a dreamy spa set among pools and greenery. From its elevated headland location, you can gaze left and right over almost-deserted horizon-breaking golden beaches, while the sleek infinity-edged pool seems to merge into the Indian Ocean. Its gloriously tranquil atmosphere – reinforced by the lack of young children – has long made it a favourite for honeymooners and couples looking for an indulgent and grown-up escape.

Why we love Jetwing Saman Villas

  • Its clifftop setting is sublime, with sandy beaches stretching away on either side and the ever-changing blues of the Indian Ocean in front.

  • You can feel yourself relax the instant you cross the over-water boardwalk into the spa, and the treatments will leave you floating.

  • Service is warm and attentive without being obtrusive; you'll really welcome here

  • It’s a paradise for water babies, with pools in many of the suites and a jaw-dropping main infinity pool overlooking the sea.
