A Taste of Sri Lanka
If it’s your first visit to Sri Lanka, this week-long journey of the ‘Teardrop Island’s’ highlights is the ideal trip to get a glimpse into the sheer variety Sri Lanka offers.
You’ll see cultural highlights like Sigiriya Rock and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, journey through Tea Country on a scenic train ride, and you’ll even take an elephant safari. Your transfers are included, so you can sit back and watch the passing scenery.

Recommended itinerary
Days 1-3
Sigiriya
You’ll land in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, where a private chauffeur-driver will meet you and drive you northeast to Sigiriya, a four-hour journey by road. Although you’ll arrive late, you’ll be exactly where you need to be to see one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable sights – the flat-topped summit of Sigiriya, where the ruins of an ancient civilisation lie. You might decide to take an elephant safari while you’re here, in addition to the memorable early-morning hike to Lion’s Rock that’s included.
Day 4
Kandy
Leaving Sigiriya, you’ll drive south to Kandy on a journey that’ll take around three hours. You’ll spend a night here, allowing you enough time to visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Royal Botanical Gardens with its exquisite collection of orchids and an impressive display of majestic trees.
Days 5 to 6
Nuwara Eliya
From Kandy, you’ll board a train to Nuwara Eliya. It’s a scenic trip through Sri Lanka’s Tea Country, passing through little villages and tea plantations. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your accommodation. While you’re in Nuwara Eliya, it’s up to you whether you’d like to take a tour of a tea factory or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful views this area is famous for.
Day 7
Negombo
After two nights in Sri Lanka’s Tea Country, you’ll be driven west on a five-hour journey to the coast, where the beaches of Negombo are waiting. It’s the perfect location for some downtime, with golden sand beaches and stylish hotels to enjoy and end your trip on a high.
Extend your holiday
Option 1: Bentota Beach
If you can’t get enough of Sri Lanka, end your holiday with a proper beach break. From Negombo, head south down Sri Lanka’s west coast to Bentota. It’s around a two-hour drive away, but you’re treated to all the bells and whistles of a beautiful beach resort. Spend a week relaxing under sunny skies and savour all the flavours of Sri Lanka in the local restaurants before returning to Colombo for your flight home.

Option 2: The Maldives
The Maldives is a short hop (aka a 90-minute flight) from Colombo so is the perfect beach bliss destination to add on to your Sri Lanka adventure.
