Water Garden Sigiriya
Soak up the scenic vistas
This boutique hotel has villa accommodation, picture-perfect gardens and Sigiriya views.
This beautiful hotel has one of the best settings on the island. The iconic Sigiriya Rock appears as an ever-present backdrop that’s beautifully framed by mature trees and pathways, and the thoughtfully landscaped grounds have been inspired by the ancient fortress’s own water gardens. We love that you can return to your hotel and continue to enjoy the region’s landscapes following a day of exploring the Cultural Triangle. And if that’s not enough, there’s also the exceptional service, the feeling of exclusivity – there are just 30 standalone villas – and the unfussy, yet high-quality interiors that don’t distract you from the natural beauty outside. We particularly love the hotel’s infinity pool which overlooks the gardens towards the rock and the overwater spa which is in a beautifully secluded spot.
Why we love Water Garden Sigiriya
-
The setting is sublime, with lush meadows edged by mature trees and dotted with ponds and lakes – and Sigiriya in the background
-
It’s a boutique gem designed by one of Sri Lanka’s most highly regarded architects, a former assistant to Geoffrey Bawa
-
At the small-but-perfectly-formed overwater spa, the therapies unite Asian techniques and local natural products
-
There’s a cultured, leisurely feel to the hotel activities, from stargazing and village visits to archery and cookery classes
Rooms
The hotel’s tranquil atmosphere extends to the 30 gorgeous villas which are scattered throughout the gardens. Each of the 30 detached chalets is wonderfully spacious and provides you with a sense of privacy. Hours can be lost looking out over the paddy fields or the waterways from the terrace of your Deluxe Villa or from your own plunge pool if you upgrade to one of the Superior Deluxe Villas or uber-spacious Duplex Villas.
We suggest upgrading to a Superior Deluxe Villa for the pleasure of having your own private plunge pool.
Facilities
There may be a single restaurant and bar, but the chefs go out of their way to cater to their guests’ tastes, with both global and local favourites on offer.
Restaurant
Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room under a statement chandelier or al fresco overlooking the pool, surrounding countryside and Sigiriya Rock. Local and international cuisine is served and most of the produce used is organic and locally sourced where possible.
The Twin Level Bar\ The same views can be enjoyed from a slightly more elevated position and with a refreshing cocktail in hand from the upper floor of the bar.
Feast on what you make on one of the resort’s superb Sri Lankan cooking classes – there’s even one just for children.
