A headlining eco-resort inspired by the London Wetlands Centre, this boutique retreat offers style and serenity.
For a luxury experience among paddy fields, reed beds and lakes, we highly recommend a stay at the beautiful Jetwing Vil Uyana which is set within a private nature reserve. If seclusion and style are important to you following a climb of the iconic Sigirya Rock Fortress or exploring ancient ruins, then this resort is for you. There’s a mix of contemporary luxury and the simplicity of rural life as well as a real sense of place and space. Night trails, wildlife watching and birding tours are just a few of the experiences you can enjoy from here.
Why we love Jetwing Vil Uyana
-
You get to stay in a unique private nature reserve that’s teeming with wildlife, including the endangered slender loris
-
The rustic-chic guest pavilions are scattered around a superb purpose-built wetland overlooked by an ancient fortress
-
It’s within easy reach of most of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites, so it’s perfect for culture buffs as well as nature fans
-
Honeymooners and couples will appreciate everything from the feeling of seclusion to the private dining options and intimate spa
This resort has earned internationally recognised certification that conform to standards set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Rooms
With 36 villas – or pavilions – nestled among reed beds by the lake, in the forest or over paddy fields, this is truly a unique setting. Relax and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere where you may spot monkeys, peacocks and butterflies from your terrace. Opt for a Paddy Field Pavilion with Pool for views out over the verdant fields and your own private plunge pool, or if you would rather be by the lake, choose a Water Pavilion. The two-storey Forest Pavilions are probably the most private accommodation options at the hotel as they are surrounded by towering reeds.
The views, the cooling breeze and the feeling of peace from the over-water balcony of the Water Dwelling is definitely worth the upgrade.
Facilities
There are two equally beautifully situated restaurants and a chic bar with décor inspired by Sigiriya fortress, supplemented by various imaginative private dining options.
Aspara\ At the main restaurant, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner overlooking the water with views towards Sigiriya Rock. The menu has an international flavour but also features plenty of Sri Lankan dishes.
Sulang Café
This laidback waterside hangout is open all day for drinks, snacks and light meals.
Graffiti Bar
Overlooking a pretty pond dotted with blue lotus, this stylish bar serves a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Treat yourself to one of the signature dining experiences, such as in a treehouse, the wine cellar or the open air surrounded by paddy fields.
Whats Included

For those with relaxation on their mind, there’s the beautiful Balinese Ayu Spa surrounded by reed beds, which provides a wide range of Ayurvedic and naturopathy treatments. You can unwind in the steam room and plunge pool before enjoying something from the spa menu, such as the signature four-in-one massage.
Private yoga sessions can be arranged via the spa.
The modern gym, open from 6am to 8pm, has a good range of cardio equipment and weights. Alternatively, there are bicycles to hire on which to explore the local area.
Starting with the basics, the open design of the buildings reduces the need for artificial lighting and air-conditioning. The island’s first man-made wetland resort, it has created a new habitat for slender loris, fishing cats, otters and many bird species. There’s an on-site organic farm which produces fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey to be used in the resort’s kitchens. All of the wastewater from various hotel operations is treated in the grounds and used for irrigation.
Children are allowed, and babysitting services are available, but there aren’t any special facilities for younger guests.
Compulsory Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve gala dinners, supplements apply.
Due to the secluded setting of this hotel, we highly recommend upgrading to Half or Full Board.
