An eco-focused hotel with just 20 cabanas on the beautifully wild south-east coast of Sri Lanka.
Laidback beach days are what holidays to the hidden gem of Arugam Bay are all about, watching the surfers catching some of the best point breaks in the country and feeling like you’re miles away from the rest of the world. Jetwing Surf is an unbeatable place to base yourself to experience the windswept beauty of this far-flung corner of Sri Lanka. To match the wild vibe of the region, the hotel has a rustic design with woven coconut palm leaves, dried illuk grass roofs and other sustainable materials used throughout. It really blends in with the natural surroundings and has a small footprint alongside its exclusive vibe.
Why we love Jetwing Surf
-
There’s a refreshing focus on sustainability in everything from the shell-inspired design to the superb locally sourced food
-
The distinctive circular cabanas are definitely rustic-chic, with romantic bathrooms and huge four-poster beds
-
Local experiences cover all the bases from cultural trips to ancient monasteries to nature safaris and cooking lessons
-
The beginner-friendly breaks at Pottuvil Point are just two minutes away, so it’s a great spot to learn how to surf
Rooms
The 20 cabanas are a unique touch at Jetwing Surf – each of these free-standing circular accommodations has lofty ceilings, a large and welcoming bed and a shaded outdoor deck that faces the gardens.
Facilities
Food is served in both the rustic-chic restaurant and pool bar, and there are signature dining options if you want to enjoy a special meal.
Rella
The hotel’s main restaurant is steps from the sand and has an open-air dining space and a large al fresco terrace as well as its own wine cellar. You can dine on locally inspired cuisine or international dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pool Bar
Cocktails, mocktails, soft drinks and snacks are served at the Pool Bar, which – as the name suggests – is next to the infinity-edged pool that overlooks the beach.
Ring the changes with a signature dining experience such as an al fresco meal in one of the chic poolside sunken ‘pods’ or on the beach.
Whats Included
Breakfast in the Main Restaurant.
Upgrade Options
Half Board • Breakfast and dinner in the Main Restaurant
Full Board • Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Main Restaurant.
Whilst the resort does not have a spa, yoga sessions in a quiet corner of the grounds or on the beach can be arranged.
Get your heart rate up with an energetic game of volleyball on the beach, or a more relaxing game of Petanque.
Aside from the swimming pool overlooking the beach, this corner of Sri Lanka is famed for its surfing. Beginners head to Pottuvil Point whilst more experienced surfers go to the internationally recognised Arugam Bay. You can join a naturalist for a cruise on Pottuvil Lagoon and the Urani River, also a great spot for bird watching.
Natural materials such as coconut palm leaves, illuk grass, coir and timber feature strongly in the construction of the buildings. Waste water from the laundry is treated and reused to irrigate the coastal garden. Solar panels provide all of the hot water required in the kitchen and restaurant. Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the local area through experiences such as bird watching and market visits.
