An inspired choice for family groups, these beautiful villas offer privacy and independence but with the benefits of two five-star resorts close at hand.
It’s hard to imagine a more perfect location for a villa holiday than a 6,000-acre former sugar plantation by the sea complete with its own nature reserve. At Heritage The Villas the impression of spaciousness carries through to the villas themselves, with their large, open-plan spaces indoors and generous outdoor terraces screened by tropical greenery. It would be tempting to stay put in your multi-generational family bubble, enjoying the infinity pool, the views down to the sea and stress-reducing included services such as daily housekeeping, plus optional extras such as a private chef. But the joy of Heritage The Villas is that the Domaine is also home to two five-star resorts, so if you want to mingle there are plenty of restaurants, bars and more in which to do so, all just a short golf-cart ride away.
Why we love Heritage The Villas
-
These luxury villas have a magnificent hillside setting in a quiet part of a former sugar plantation
-
All of the villas have private infinity pools, regardless of their size and location
-
Villa guests have access to the other areas of the estate, including a beach club, two five-star hotels, two championship golf courses and a nature reserve
-
If you’d rather not cook, there’s a fabulous Gourmet Bliss All Inclusive package that covers most of the Domaine’s restaurants and bars
Rooms
All villas are individually decorated in a calming, neutral style with African and Mauritian flourishes: mirrors framed in seashells, colourful paintings and baskets of orchids. Each has a private infinity pool and plenty of outside space for lazing and eating, and all the bedrooms are en suite. The Pool Villas come in two-, three- and four-bedroom versions and look out over the golf course and the leafy grounds. The Ocean View villas (available until the end of 2023) will suit larger groups, with the option of three or four bedrooms; as the name suggests, they come with Indian Ocean views.
Which villa you book will depend on the size of your party, but the Ocean View villas have the best of the views.
Facilities
The selection of places to eat on the Domaine covers everything from haute cuisine in what was once the estate owner’s house to more laidback options by the beach or one of the five swimming pools.
Le Château de Bel Ombre
The fine-dining restaurant is housed in the historic plantation house at the heart of the estate and offers refined international dishes created using local ingredients, many grown on the Domaine itself.
Heritage C Beach Club
If you’re not breakfasting in your villa, Heritage C Beach Club is a great place to start the day with the freshest of dishes and a restorative dip in the sea.
Annabella’s
Open for breakfast and dinner, Annabella’s serves up healthy, mood-enhancing dishes in an elegant brasserie-style setting.
Gin’ja\ Overlooking the lagoon, Gin’ja specialises in Pan-Asian cooking: a la carte in the evening and a street-food buffet in the middle of the day.
Le Palmier
This al fresco eatery is great for toes-in-the-sand lunches, suppers or just drinks beside the sea.
The Cavendish Bar & Lounge
With the feel of a piano bar, this relaxed garden lounge serves all-day drinks along with light bites and pancakes in the middle of the day.
The Club House
The Heritage Golf Club’s restaurant has simple but delicious food during the day; two evenings a week it also hosts O’Grill steakhouse.
Savana\ Occupying four pavilions surrounded by mirrored ponds, Savana has delicious international buffets at breakfast and dinner.
Kuzini\ This à la carte restaurant serves Italian specialities every evening.
Zafarani
The menu is full of delicious creations conjured up by the Indian-born chef – it’s perfect for an informal grown-up dinner (adults-only).
Infinity Blue
Seafood fans will love this rustic spot, where you can lunch or dine on Creole cuisine and sip cocktails on the beach itself or on the terrace overlooking it.
Zenzi Bar
A relaxed pool bar by day, it turns into a lively cocktail bar at night.
**Amafrooty **
This laidback poolside venue provides snacks and light dishes for those who can’t tear themselves away from their loungers.
Boma
At this open-air pop-up, you dine around a campfire under the stars listening to the beats of African drums – a memorable experience.
Instead of eating out, for a truly one-off experience you can arrange to have a meal cooked by a private chef in your own villa – great for a special occasion.

Helping to reduce food miles, Bel Ombre’s fertile acres produce seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs for the restaurants and bars, along with honey from its own hives. There’s an in-house bottling plant to cut down on plastic bottles, and an ongoing project to eliminate single-use plastics altogether. All wastewater is treated on the site and used for irrigation, and there’s also a rainwater collection system.
