There are so many opportunities to create your own Maldivian experiences across tropical twin islands – Chill and Play.
Niyama Private Islands extends the conventional concept of luxury. Chill and Play are both blessed with exceptional natural beauty but offer distinct atmospheres. Discover new depths of relaxation at The Drift Spa on Chill or find delightful diversions on Play when you’re looking for more active pursuits like kayaking, parasailing or even surfing at the resort's own wave break, Vodi Point. Bicycles come as standard in each villa, so expect to see guests exploring paradise on two wheels, weaving between the pool, the spa, restaurants galore, and activities aplenty. Then retreat to quintessentially Maldivian villas and pavilions, each with contemporary styling and splashes of colour that give them an edge yet remain the epitome of exclusive hideaways.
Why we love Niyama Private Islands Maldives
-
Ten places to eat and five bars – with options in the treetops, by the fireside, and under the water, or choose an incredible setting for private dining.
-
Evenings are atmospheric, whether you’re adrift on a sunset cruise or watching a movie under the stars in the outdoor cinema.
-
Stylish villas and pavilions are stocked with homemade ice cream and popcorn and come with bicycles to get around the islands.
-
Every island activity has been customised to entertain children from 12 months to 12 years with diverse activities, from baby yoga and snorkelling safaris to pizza making and island treasure hunts.
Rooms
134 villas and pavilions sprawl across the white-sand beach and over translucent water. While the outline of the quintessential Maldives abode remains—thatched roofs, cantilevered pools, panoramas of the open horizon—bold splashes of colour and contemporary lines add a distinctively Niyama edge. Inside, small touches elevate luxury to extravagance, including a semi-al fresco bathroom, surround-sound entertainment, villa host service, and, most deliciously of all, a deli with ice cream and a popcorn machine. As well as evoking ultimate luxury, the resort's villas have a practical design in terms of bed configuration and floor space providing a comfortable living environment for all the family.
Facilities
Famous for its culinary diversity, you’ll find an almost unparalleled variety of restaurants and dining experiences across Niyama’s two islands. Epicure or Blu are your best bet for all-day dining, both overlooking the Indian Ocean. You can savour Asian avant-garde cuisine in a treetop setting at Nest and African meets South American dining amid blazing fires in the jungle at Tribal. Under the sea, indulge in Champagne breakfasts six metres below the ocean’s surface at Subsix. And you’ll find modern fine dining cast half a kilometre from the shore at Edge. Look out for exceptional beach dining experiences such as Braai Night on the Beach, Took Took Street Food on the Beach, and Rum, Ribs and Reggae at Surf Shack. Parents can enjoy the various gastronomic experiences on offer with peace of mind that all restaurants have a kids menu to ensure everyone's appetites are fulfilled.

Step into a world of pure relaxation and regenerative holistic treatments to improve your mental, physical, and emotional health. By combining the world’s ancient healing traditions with the latest from Beverly Hills to Paris, Drift Spa offers a distinctive approach to rejuvenation that integrates exercise, nutrition, and the ancient practice of Ayurveda.
Multi-day programs are thoughtfully designed to foster physical and mental well-being in a serene and idyllic environment in six over-water treatment rooms—all with wide-open views across the ocean. There are two garden sanctuaries with an outdoor bath, rain shower, and daybed, as well as a lime tree garden with saunas and steam baths, plunge pools, and a juice bar.
Treatments, rituals, and bespoke therapies come from around the globe and include IV therapies, holistic massages, and medical pedicures.
You don't even have to leave your room to enjoy the spa treatments on offer with the Family Soul spa packages. This in-villa spa service caters for parents with release massages whilst the children are pampered with mani-pedi treatments, meaning you can share a relaxing experience as a family after a hard day of water sports and activities.
Work out alone or with a personal trainer at the 24-hour gym, or try one of the classes, from boxing to circuit training. There’s Zumba for kids and teen workouts, too. A floodlit tennis court is nestled in the jungle foliage, with complimentary rackets and balls. For something a little different, try the Stick Mobility work out for joint mobilisation and active stretching to leave you feeling more flexible and stronger.
On Play, there’s nitrox diving right offshore. The diving school at Niyama is considered the best in class and helmed by pros. High-speed thrills include zooming underwater on a Seabob, skimming the waves on a jet or wakeboard, or thrusting into the air with a jetpack strapped on like Superman. See it all from above as you drift across pearl strings of islands parasailing or get up close to bottlenose dolphins on a boat trip – they’ll spin in your wake while mantas dance beneath you.
Another highlight here is the Vodi Point wave break at the southern end of Play island; Niyama is the only luxury resort where you can surf directly off the shore. There's instruction available for beginners or one-to-one coaching for more experienced surfers.
A resident marine biologist leads a coral nursery programme to restore the reef
A family haven, Niyama Resort provides exciting activities for those looking for adventure with the water sports centre offering activities like jet-skiing and kayaking. Aside from the high adrenaline activities, the calm lagoon is the perfect spot for teaching the little ones to snorkel for the first time. As a family, you can also explore the vibrant marine life surrounding the islands with guided diving excursions. Get a family souvenir by taking photos in a magnificent setting with the SNAP Studio.
Children are considered young VIPs at the resort and can participate in a wide range of activities than typical at the Explorers Kids Club between 9 am and 6 pm under the supervision of trained professionals and split into four different age categories. Providing distinct care for babies aged from as little as 12 months old, making this one of the only places to do so. A sunset cruise is an excellent way to end your day together. Your family can witness the mesmerising beauty of the Maldivian sunset while enjoying refreshments on board.
You can also take advantage of the in-villa babysitting service, including infants under 12 months, for those parents seeking some quality time as a couple.
Minimum stays apply.
