Taj Lake Palace

A unique romantic palace island

Framed by the backdrop of the striking Aravalli Hills, the luxurious Taj Lake Palace seemingly floats amid the serenity of Lake Pichola.

This historic palace was built in the 1700s as a summer retreat for the Mewar royal family and in 1963 it was converted to a beautiful heritage hotel. Reachable by boat, this opulent marble hotel presents four acres of graceful courtyards, pavilions and gardens with a refreshing lakeside pool. Its white marble exterior may seem familiar as it was the location for the James Bond film Octopussy. Although this might arouse curiosity from tourists, Taj Lake Palace is entirely exclusive and only the hotel’s guests are present on the island. Every guest is treated like royalty with a team of butlers to attend to your needs. The hotel’s staff are incredibly attentive and make every effort to cater to your quirks and preferences, whether it's the chef creating a new dish especially for your palate or simply greeting you warmly by name accompanied with a smile. The resulting experience is an unforgettable one that makes guests long to return.

Why we love Taj Lake Palace

  • A real highlight involves arriving in a private boat while the hotel slowly emerges like a mirage, floating on the water

  • The outdoor pool mirrors the serenity of the lake while the spa pampers from head to toe

  • You can take a spa treatment on a converted royal boat

  • Historians are available to take you on a heritage walk of the palace
