The healing power of Madeira’s beautiful landscapes is the inspiration for the hotel’s elegantly modern Laurea Spa*. Its glamorous wellness circuit includes a heated pool, sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi, ice fountain, halotherapy room and sensory showers, and there’s a menu of nature-based therapies and a Margaret Dabbs nail bar. There are also weekly yoga, Pilates and t’ai chi group classes.
In the bright and open fitness room, Technogym cardio machines share space with a range of free weights and resistance equipment, while outdoor fanatics can enjoy guided morning mountain hikes.
Treatments and to access to the spa's facilities are chargeable unless you're booking a treatment of an hour or more in duration; guests in the Reserve Suites get free access to these facilities but treatments are still chargeable. The spa is exclusively for the use of guests over 16 years old.
Bathing options include an impressively large freeform outdoor pool, a pool just for the kids, a heated indoor pool next to the spa and the heated adult-only infinity pool on the 17th floor. If sea bathing is more your thing, you can access the ocean through the neighbouring sister property, Royal Savoy, reached by a private bridge. If you prefer to be on the sea rather than in it, you could treat yourself to a private boat charter complete with a chef.
Across the Savoy Signature group, there’s a focus on supporting the local economy and community and respecting the island’s environment. Ingredients for the restaurants and bars are seasonal, organic (if possible) and ethically harvested, while other products have to be reusable, recyclable and durable.
Children up to the age of 2 stay for free, there’s a well-stocked children’s playroom (though it’s only supervised at certain times of the year) and a kids’ pool, while the menu for babies and up has lots of age-appropriate dishes.
