Walk on top of medieval walls where every ancient stone has a story and lounge on impressive beaches sprinkled with plumped up loungers, on holidays to Rhodes.
The domineering Acropolis of Lindos is saturated in gold light as dusk falls over the prettiest of white-washed villages, cool tunes play from beach tavernas serving freshly grilled fish as windsurfers dot a turquoise sea and kittens doze under sun on the ancient cobblestoned Street of the Knights. Landing on the largest of the Dodecanese archipelago, Rhodes holidays are an island of near-endless sunshine and beach, yacht-sprinkled bays of blues and greens and faded frescoes in mountain top churches.
Scooters buzz through a double-walled medieval town the Ottomans took over centuries before, luxury hotels are carved into cliffs and bougainvillea-filled courtyards are made for lingering over Greek mezze and ouzo. We’ve been to Rhodes and can tell you it’s the picture-perfect island for a Hellenistic historical fix of ruins and regalia and a blissful spot for those warm waters of the Aegean Sea, intact traditional villages and delicious family run restaurants where ‘mama’ still cooks over an open grill.
If you’ve got your family in tow, holidays to Rhodes are a whimsical adventure of aqua parks and waterslides, shallow seas fringed by golden sands and enticing nectar in the Valley of Butterflies drawing those delicate little creatures to your shoulders. The more romantic will find solitary bliss among the high rocks, white pebbles and dreamy caves of Kato Petres, and those seeking that ‘yamas’ atmosphere are spoilt for choice with cocktail-fuelled bars and beach parties.
If you want to walk among ruins before landing on a glorious beach, Rhodes is the ideal island to do it on; give us a call and we’ll help craft your next Greek island holiday.

Where is Rhodes?
In the southeast corner of the Aegean Sea, the island of Rhodes, shaped like a spearhead, is the largest of the Dodecanese archipelago and is located just off the Anatolian coast of Turkey.
Culture
Rhodes holidays are a blend of the cosmopolitan and the timeless. In the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town see the famous medieval Street of the Knights and the Palace of the Grand Masters and then venture further afield to the ancient white-washed village of Lindos to visit that famous acropolis.
Natural Rhodes
One of Rhodes’ most beautiful attractions is Butterfly Valley, where June to September butterflies come to nest. Both Rodini Park and the Seven Springs make for pretty days out among pine forest and palm trees where you can catch some shade, watch the wildlife and see one of the most ancient parks in the world. Lovers of watersports should head to Prasonisi beach for kite surfing and wind surfing or visit Anthony Quinn beach for the best spots for snorkelling.
Getting around
Buses provide a good service throughout the island and in the Old Town you’ll find plenty of taxis to get you from one area to another, and also set fares clearly displayed for one-way trips to other towns, such as Lindos. If you want the freedom to explore at your own pace and schedule, hiring a car is a good option and roads are well maintained and easy to navigate.
Food & drink
Expect beachside tavernas and pretty courtyard restaurants offering Greek mezze of either meats or fish combined with breads and tzatziki, fresh fish straight from the sea and authentic homemade dishes such as shrimp, pork and stews. Kids are well catered for with wood-oven pizzas and pastas and come evening you’ll find many an attractive restaurant with everything from Middle Eastern influences to classic Greek tavernas.
