Farewell Harbour Lodge - Wildlife Eco-tour
The welcoming, informal and secluded Farewell Harbour Lodge is situated on the coast of Berry Island, a pristine environment in British Columbia's Broughton archipelago.
The region is a haven for one of British Columbia's most famous wildlife species – the grizzly bear – and the region's waters are teeming with marine animals. Your time will be split between wildlife-watching excursions and relaxing at the lodge with its wrap-around deck and comfortable lounge area, both of which make the most of the amazing views. Pack your sense of adventure, ensure you have your sea legs and be ready for the experience of a lifetime.
3- to 6-night itinerary; departures daily from early June to early October On the first day of your adventure, depart Alder Bay on a high-speed water taxi which will whisk you to the lodge in approximately 30 minutes – but be prepared for an unscheduled stop en route if there's something worth seeing. Enjoy a warm greeting, a short orientation talk and lunch. After you've settled into your room, you will set off for your first included experience – a marine mammal-viewing boat trip. What you see will depend on the time of year – in the early spring you could see Steller sea lions, Pacific white sided dolphins and humpback whales, while from July to September you can see salmon leaping and, hopefully, the orcas that are searching for their next meal.
Days begin with breakfast served at the lodge; fuel up for a day of wildlife viewing with a cooked breakfast or choose something a bit lighter. The rest of your time be spent on a variety of excursions - your upcoming adventures will be discussed over appetisers the previous evening. Following breakfast, you'll head out on one of the boats with your group to one of four different river systems for your first full-day bear excursion. Your knowledgable guide will know the signs of wildlife activity and will be able to spot action on the shore or the surface of the water from a great distance. You will bring a bagged lunch with you on your trip and later return to the lodge in the late afternoon, ready for some down time, a 3-course meal and a presentation by one of the team at the lodge.
On your departure day you can head out on one final morning outing – either a sea kayaking trip in the inlets and harbours near the lodge, a rain forest hike or another trip out on the boat for a marine tour. At approximately midday you'll return to Alder Bay where you will continue on with your incredible Canadian adventure.
