Itinerary overview
Day 1
Auckland
On arrival, transfer to your the QT Auckland where a welcome reception with drinks and canapés.
Day 2
Tauranga
Spend the morning exploring Auckland, visiting historic Parnell, Auckland Museum and the waterfront. On the way to Tauranga, stop off at Mission Bay and the Hobbiton Movie Set close to the town of Matamata. Stay at Trinity Wharf Tauranga.
Day 3
Rotorua
Begin the day exploring Mount Maunganua and enjoying the views of the Bay of Plenty, and visiting the National Kiwi Hatchery Aotearoa to learn about the conservation efforts to protect the country's iconic bird. Stay at Pullman Rotorua.
Day 4
Rotorua
Spend the day discovering the delights of Rotorua at your own pace. In the evening, rejoin the group for a cultural night at the Te Pā Tū Māori Experience. Learn about Māori rituals, stories, warfare and peace and sit down to a three-course meal. Stay at Pullman Rotorua.
Day 5
Napier
On the way to the east coast city of Napier, enjoy a guided tour of Whirinaki Forest, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience. In the company of a local expert guide, wander through these Jurassic woods that thick with evergreen podocarpus trees and shrubs. For dinner this evening, you'll head to Craggy Range Winery which has stunning views of Te Mata peak and is one of the top restaurants in the country. Stay at Porters Boutique Hotel.
Day 6
Napier
Another day, another MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience. Today, you'll head to Cape Kidnappers and do an overland safari to see the gannet colony on New Zealand's largest privately owned nature reserve. Later, return to Napier and explore the Art Deco city on a city tour in a vintage car. Stay at Porters Boutique Hotel.
Day 7
Wellington
Continue south to the nation's capital city, Wellington, where you'll have some free time. You could visit Te Papa, Museum of New Zealand, an incredible museum packed with exhibitions and artifacts showcasing both human and natural history, or take a ride on the Wellington Cable Car for far reaching views. Stay at Naumi Hotel Wellington.
Day 8
Marlborough Sounds
Cross the Cook Strait on the Interislander Ferry, disembarking in Picton. You'll then get back on the water for the transfer along Queen Charlotte Sound to your lodge. Stay at Furneaux Lodge.
Day 9
Marlborough Sounds
Your days is yours to do with as you wish. You could hike a section of the Queen Charlotte Track, go on a pearl-inspired tour provided by the lodge or head out fishing on the sound. Stay at Furneaux Lodge.
Day 10
Christchurch
Return to Picton and continue the journey south towards Christchurch, passing through the coastal town of Kaikōura on the way. Stay at Hotel Montreal Christchurch.
Day 11
Lake Ohau
The day begins with a bit of city exploration in Christchurch before heading west to Lake Tekapo. Stop at the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd which sits on the edge of the blue-water lake before heading onwards to Mount Cook Lakeside Retreat for high tea and some sparkling wine. Stay at Lake Oahu Lodge.
Day 12
Queenstown
En route to Queenstown, make a few stops. The first of these will be at Mrs Jones Orchard for fresh produce and the next is the Highlands Museum which focuses on the country's motorsport history. Then pause for lunch at the Gibbston Valley's Kinross cellar door, and explore Arrowtown's gold rush history. Stay at The Rees Hotel Queenstown.
Day 13
Queenstown
Your full day in Queenstown is yours to fill as you please. There are plenty of adventure activities that you can try, from highspeed boat trips along the river to bungee jumps and rope swings. Slower paced options include a steamship ride across Lake Wakatipu. The day comes to a close with dinner at the Bathhouse which sits on the lakeshore. Stay at The Rees Hotel Queenstown.
Day 14
Milford Sound
Experience of the world's most scenic drives as you travel from Queenstown to Milford Sound, the Fiordland National Park's most photographed corner. On the way, stop for lunch at Te Anau. On arrival at the Milford Sound pier, you'll board the stunning Milford Mariner ship, your home for the next night. Witness the beauty of the sound (including its hanging waterfalls) from deck and keep an eye out for seas, penguins and dolphins as you cruise. Stay on board the Milford Mariner.
Day 15
Wānaka
Wake up surrounded by the beauty of Milford Sound before returning to the pier and continuing your journey back on dry land. Head for the lakeside town Wānaka and the stunning Edgewater Lake Wānaka Hotel where you will spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring. Stay Edgewater Lake Wānaka Hotel.
Day 16
Franz Josef
Another day of scenic driving is on the cards as you travel towards the western edge of the South Island through the mountains. Pass Lake Hawea and cross Haast Pass on the way down to the coast. Stop off on the way for a thrilling jet boat ride on the Haast River before arriving in Franz Josef. Stay at Te Waonui Forest Retreat.
Day 17
Franz Josef
Have a leisurely morning before taking a tour of the region with a local guide. You'll learn about the glaciers, rain forest and other stunning landscapes. Stay at Te Waonui Forest Retreat.
Day 18
Christchurch via TranzAlpine
Head to Hokitika, a west coast community with a rich history of ship wrecks and gold mining. Then hop on the TranzAlpine train and enjoy the spectacular mountain and valley scenery as you travel towards Christchurch. Spend your final evening enjoy a celebration dinner with your fellow travellers. Stay: Hotel Montreal Christchurch.
Day 19
Christchurch
Transfer to Christchurch airport for your onward journey.
