 Garonga – Garonga Safari Camp 

A luxury tented safari experience

A romantic and intimate tented haven in the bush with tailored wildlife experiences.

Set against a backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains, with the Makhutswi River cutting through the grassy plains, Garonga Safari Camp is a beautiful setting for your safari experience. As well as the Big Five, there is also the chance to see cheetah and wild dog on morning and evening game drives.

The concept of Garonga is ‘safari for the soul’, a chance to absorb your natural surroundings, whether it’s relaxing on your deck in the hammock, a stretch on the yoga deck or some meditation after a silent bush walk. There are unique ways to add romance to your safari such as private dinners, a massage in the sala or a candle-lit bubble bath with wine in a secluded outdoor setting or spend the night on the sleep out deck. For an aerial perspective, microlight flights lift off from Garonga’s private airstrip.

The camp is intimate with just six Luxury Tents, each decorated in safari chic-style with rough-plastered walls and a clean, white canvas roof. All tents feature an enormous draped bed and an en suite furnished with double vanity sinks and a shower as well as a refreshing outdoor shower. A private viewing deck and hammock outside your tent create a serene spot to unwind or look out for wildlife as they drink from the nearby watering holes.

Meals are served at a variety of spots at Garonga, including the Main Lounge and the outdoor boma. Early morning snacks include tea, coffee, juice and biscuits and breakfast is served either in the Main Lounge or out in the bush on the dry riverbed. Gather around the campfire and share your wildlife interactions with other guests before dining together in the boma. Private dining spots are available around the camp, an ideal choice for romantic dinners or special celebrations.

Sustainability is a key focus for Garonga. Solar plants and a water filtration plant have been installed. To avoid plastic, guests are given a reusable metal water bottle. A thermodynamic geyser supplies the hot water, negating the need for electric geysers.
