Camp Xakanaxa

Year-round wildlife viewing

Overlooking the banks of the Khwai River on the Xakanaxa Lagoon, this tented safari camp provides an authentic safari experience.

In the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, Camp Xakanaxa is a homely yet classic safari camp overlooking the banks of the Khwai River. Offering year-round land and water-based safaris, game drives in 4x4 vehicles leave early morning and late afternoon in search of the reserve’s larger mammals including lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, zebra and giraffe. Boats are used to explore the channels of the lagoon where hippos wallow and where you may also see lechwe antelope that favour wetland areas.

The public areas are built of traditional thatch and reed connected by wooden walkways leading to elevated wildlife-viewing decks. There are two swimming pools with a deck for a spot of sunbathing, while the sala with a day bed is perfect if you're looking for some relaxing downtime. In the evening, the campfire is lit as the sounds of Africa echo around the camp.

Why we love Camp Xakanaxa

  • Camp Xakanaxa is one of the oldest camps in the Moremi Game Reserve and located in a prime wildlife viewing area

  • The classic Meru-style safari tents fringe the lagoon and offer a private viewing deck

  • The birdlife is plentiful, especially during Botswana’s spring and summer months when migratory species come to breed

  • In the evenings, share your wildlife encounters with other guests and guides around the camp fire
