Day 1

Arrival in Makgadikgadi Pans

Fly from Maun today to reach your home for the next two nights – Leroo La Tau, an eco-friendly camp set above the Boteti River in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. This sprawling national park is home to some of the largest salt pans in the world – vast, salt-encrusted plains which you’ll get the chance to admire from above. Touch down at the lodge and settle in or get straight into the adventures with an afternoon game drive. Overnight at Leroo La Tau.

Leroo La Tau and the Boteti River Safari

Makgadikgadi Pans

Everyone knows about the Great Migration in the Serengeti, but not many people talk about Botswana’s migration. But every year, thousands of zebra and wildebeest make their way from the wetlands of the north to the pans to seek fresh grass, marking the second-biggest zebra migration in Africa. Leroo La Tau is based right in front of the Boteti River, so you will get to see all this wildlife grazing outside the lodge from around May to November, as well as the predators that follow. As well as game drives, when the water is high enough, motorised boat trips on the Boteti River are offered so you can witness all of the action.

When the water is high enough,  motorised boat trips on the Boteti River are offered so you can witness all of the action. See zebras and elephants coming to drink, as well as other game such as impalas, kudus and giraffes. Being on the river gives you a unique perspective of the area.

The main activity here revolves around game drives. Enjoy morning and afternoon drives in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, which sits just across the river and attracts lots of wildlife. You may see lions, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, bushbucks, kudus and more roaming the grassland and scrubland – sometimes you might even spot a leopard or cheetah. On the afternoon trips, you will stop for snacks and sundowners as the sun sets over the Boteti River, painting the sky and river red.

Day 2

Makgadikgadi Pans

Head into the national park this morning on an early game drive as you keep your eyes peeled for lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, kudus and more. If you’re here between May and November, you’ll be surrounded by zebras and wildebeest too – the park is home to Africa’s second-biggest zebra migration, when thousands come to seek fresh grass. If the river is high enough, head out on a motorboat trip on the river to see these landscapes from another angle. Overnight at Leroo La Tau.

Day 3

Makgadikgadi Pans & Moremi Game Reserve

Visit the village of Khumaga on your way to the airstrip this morning. Afterwards, fly to the Moremi Game Reserve, set in one of the world’s most treasured wildlife destinations – the Okavango Delta. Settle in at one of the oldest lodges in the reserve, home to traditional tented suites built with eco-friendly materials. Overnight at Camp Xakanaxa.

Day 4

Moremi Game Reserve

Venture out on a game drive this morning with chances to spot several rare species, including the endangered wild dog, the swamp-dwelling sitatunga antelope and the red-coated lechwe. Lions, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, impalas and more all call the area home too, so keep your eyes peeled for some exceptional game viewing. In the afternoon, opt for a second game drive or take to the water on a motorboat cruise to see the region’s mishmash of waterways, floodplains and Mopane forests from another perspective. Overnight at Camp Xakanaxa.

Day 5

Moremi Game Reserve & Chobe National Park

Bid farewell to the Moremi Game Reserve today as you fly to the town of Kasane, the gateway to Chobe National Park. From here you’ll board a boat to reach the remote Chobe Savanna Lodge, located on the Namibian side of the river in the Eastern Zambezi region. If time allows in the afternoon, choose to head out on a motorboat safari along the Chobe or opt for a sunset trip on a skimmer boat to see the sky blaze red above the grasslands. Overnight at Chobe Savanna Lodge.

Day 6

Chobe National Park

Choose from a range of safari activities on the river today – sunrise skimmer trips, motorboat cruises and catch and release fishing excursions are all available from the lodge. Alternatively, opt for a morning excursion to the nearby fishing village of Kasinu, where most of the staff from the lodge live. Stop by the market to pick up handcrafted souvenirs as you get a glimpse into local life here. Overnight at Chobe Savanna Lodge.

Day 7

Chobe National Park & Victoria Falls

Board the boat back to Kasane today, where you’ll be driven across the border into Zimbabwe to reach the final star of the show – the Victoria Falls. Often cited as one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders, this is the largest sheet of falling water on the planet, stretching over 1,700m. You’ll be taken on a walking tour to see its five main viewpoints, passing through rainforest as you watch 700,000 cubic metres of water plummet down at Main Falls. Overnight at Ilala Lodge.

Day 8

Victoria Falls

Spend another day amid the thunder of the falls and opt for an extra excursion if you’re feeling adventurous. You might decide to raft your way down the rapids, zipline above the falls or soar over the Zambezi on the Gorge Swing. Alternatively, relax at the lodge with views of the falls in the distance and keep an eye out for warthogs, hippos and elephants grazing below. Overnight at Ilala Lodge.

Day 9

Victoria Falls & Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Victoria Falls Airport this morning for your flight home or onward travel.
